 Jumper setting
 --------------

x = Jumpers are set at factory

The D3755 has jumper plugs indicated by marking of JP12, JP13, JP15
and JP17. The function of these jumper plugs are described below.
Further, the other jumper plugs are used for inspection at the
factory. Please refrain from touching them.

       +----------------------------------------+--------+
By allowing retry on execution of the Read command in the drive,
recoverable read error is automatically corrected with the retry
 function of the drive itself.

 JP17 Auto Power Save Mode
 ---------------------------
       +-------------------+--------------------------------------+
       | JP17 | Function |

       +-------------------+--------------------------------------+
       |CLOSED for 2 to 3 | Auto power save function is enabled. |
       +-------------------+--------------------------------------+
The drive offers the auto power save mode as a function to reduce the
power consumption. This function is effective in case where access to
HDD is not made so frequently. The plug is set for propriety of use
 of auto power save function.

When the auto power save mode is enabled, the drive sends the
magnetic head to the shipping cylinder if there has been no access to
HDD for 3 minutes, and powers off to the internal circuit except the
 interface circuit.

The D3755 can be installed either horizontally or vertically. In
horizontal installation, mount the drive to maintain a posture that
its printed-circuit board will be situated below (The drive cannot be
mounted with the interface connector J1 and the power connector J3
 positioned above or below).

The drive has 10 mounting screw holes. Use these screw holes for
installation. It requires an interface cable and power supply cable
to operate the drive. Further, this drive has various optional
 functions including master/slave configuration.

 Frame
 -----
The D3755 has a frame with 10 mounting screws holes. This frame is
insulated from the disk enclosure assembly with a shock absorber
for absorbing vibration and shock. On system installation, allow a
clearance of at least 2.54 mm around the drive to prevent the disk
enclosure assembly from contacting with the system frame.

 Connector J1
 ------------
Connector J1 for the interface is a 40-pin box type and right angle
connector. Use the interface cable within the limit of 46 cm length.
Sample: Adapted connector on the J1 cable side:
DUPONT 66900-240 or equivalent (Integrated housing and pin)

 Connector J3
 ------------
The power supply connector J3 is AMP P/N 350211-1 or equivalent.
The AMP P/N 1-480424-0 is applicable to a connector housing on the
cable side. For the power cable, take current consumption of the
drive and cable length into consideration. Use a connector pin suit-
 able for the wiring.

 Connector J8
 ------------
The D3755 is provided with a signal connector used to illuminate LED
to indicate that the drive is busy in exchanging data/command to and
from PC/AT host system. The signal connector is ELCO 00 8283 0211
 00000 or equivalent.
The ELCO 60 8283 3028 45000 or equivalent is applicable to a housing
 on the cable side and ELCO 60 8283 0513 99 808 is a receptacle
 contact.

 Jumper Plug Type
 ----------------
If the jumper plug setting is to be changed for the setting when it
is shipped from the factory, please use the following jumper plug:

 Recommended Plug: DUPONT
                    LU-JUMP socket

NEC D3755 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

 General Outline and Features
 ----------------------------
The D3755 Magnetic Disk Drive is a storage device using 3.5" magnetic
disk platter and mini-Winchester type magnetic head with unformatted
storage capacity of 131.3 MB, and adopts the PC/AT interface.

The rotary voice coil motor used in its positioning mechanism brings
about read and write operations with high-speed seek and high-
 reliability.

 Features
With the Winchester technology employed, the magnetic disk platter
and magnetic heads are housed in the enclosure made of aluminium
 alloy.

The sector servo mode system is used for control of magnetic head
positioning. By using this system, average seek time is reduced to
 19 milliseconds.

The CSS (Contact Start Stop) area provided on the innermost cylinder
of the magnetic disk platters, together with auto retract function
and auto carriage lock mechanismem, assure a high reliability against
 vibration and shock during transportation.

The built-in PC/AT interface is a popular interface for personal
 computers and facilitates system configuration.

The Read Look Ahead Cache function by the track buffer is supported.

By using the magnetic disk drive with read/write capability of 1.5 MB
per second in 1:1 interleave, the system operation speed is enhanced.

Having the master/slave function, two drives can be connected in
daisy-chain using the same interface cable.

By supporting the General Translation function, the optional disk
parameter within disk storage capacity can be used.

 Disk Enclosure Assembly
 -----------------------
The disk enclosure (DE) comprises magnetic disk platters, magnetic
heads, head carriage mechanism, rotary voice coil motor and air
filter. The spindle motor to rotate the magnetic disk platters
consists in a inside-hup type DC brushless motor.

 Printed-Circuit Board Assembly
 ------------------------------
PC/AT interface circuit, buffer RAM, DMA controller, read/write
control circuit, servo control circuit and spindle motor drive
circuit are installed for control on the overall operation of the
 drive and interface.

 Interface Circuit
 -----------------
Use by input and output conditions as shown below.

Input Signal Low = 0.0 VDC to 0.8 VDC
Signal High = 2.2 VDC to service voltage of 5 V.

Output Signal Low = 0.0 VDC to 0.4 VDC
                             (0.5 V @ 12mA Sink)
Signal High = 2.5 VDC to 5.25 VDC or Open Circuit

 Reliability
 -----------
 MTBF 50,000 POH
 MTTR Within 30 minutes
